Jeeyoo And Her Pink Things/Kevin And His Blue Things, JeongMee Yoon, 2008/2005

What started as a thesis project inspired by Yoon’s daughter’s passion for all things pink has turned into an ongoing inventarization of children’s color-coded possessions, exposing not merely clichés of gender but also rampant infantile consumerism.

He also provides this enlightening historical note on the pink/blue dichotomy:

“In 1914, The Sunday Sentinel, an American newspaper, advised mothers to “use pink for the boy and blue for the girl, if you are a follower of convention.” The change to pink for girls and blue for boys happened in America and elsewhere only after World War II.” (via We Love You So)
